Between two days at sea or in the desert, Hurghada and its surroundings offer some lovely, quieter discoveries. Here are our favourites.
El Gouna, the "Venice of the Red Sea"
About thirty minutes north of Hurghada, El Gouna is a town built around lagoons, with marinas, bridges and colourful architecture. The Visit El Gouna (from 35€) includes the view from the El Gouna tower, a lagoon cruise and a tour of the districts. On Wednesdays, or every day as a private visit (€50 per person).
The Hurghada Grand Aquarium
More than 24 galleries, a shark tunnel and over a hundred Red Sea species: the Grand Aquarium Hurghada (from 45€) is perfect with children or on a windy day. A visit of about 1 to 2 hours.
Mini Egypt Park
Pyramids, Sphinx, Karnak, the Temple of Hatshepsut… in miniature. Mini Egypt Park in Hurghada lets you tour the great monuments in a few hours. A good introduction before a trip to Cairo or Luxor.
Spa and hammam
After your excursions, nothing beats the Spa (from 35€): a 45-minute massage, sauna, kessa glove scrub, foam wrap and jacuzzi, transfers included.
WaterWorld water park
Slides, a lazy river, a wave pool: Aqua Park Water World in Makadi is a guaranteed fun day, transfer and lunch included.
Carriage ride
The Carriage riding at sunset, with a buffet and a show, is an original way to end the day.
What to do in El Gouna
- Climb the El Gouna tower for the view over the lagoons.
- Sail the lagoon between villas and bridges.
- Stroll around Abu Tig Marina, with its restaurants and yachts.
- Explore Downtown and its colourful streets.
Hurghada's old town
El Dahar is the historic heart of Hurghada: markets, spices, mosques and local life. An interesting walk to see the town beyond the hotels.
Our view
Keep half a day for El Gouna or the aquarium in the middle of your stay: it lets you breathe between two big excursions while discovering something different.
