Seeing dolphins in the Red Sea is one of the most beautiful memories you can take home from Hurghada. There are several ways to live this encounter, very different from one another. Here is how to choose.

1. Dolphins in the open sea

North of Hurghada, a large horseshoe-shaped reef nicknamed Dolphin House is regularly home to wild dolphins. The Dolphin day at sea (from 25€) includes:

  • a stop to watch the dolphins and swim nearby when conditions allow;
  • two snorkeling stops at two different spots;
  • a buffet lunch and unlimited drinks.

Important: these are wild animals, their presence is never guaranteed. That is what makes the encounter so special.

For a more intimate trip, dolphin watching is also available semi-private (about 3 hours) with the Speed Boat Semi Private.

2. Swimming with dolphins in a pool

Swim with dolphins (from 60€) takes place in a pool, under the supervision of the trainers. Not recommended under 5.

3. The dolphin show

The Dolphin show (from 18€) is a show of about one hour, loved by children. Open to everyone, no need to get your head wet.

4. The photo shoot

The Shooting with dolphins includes a session with 10 photos: an original souvenir to take home.

Good practices at sea

  • Do not try to touch or chase the dolphins.
  • Follow the guide's instructions: they know how to approach without disturbing.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen.
  • For children, swimming with dolphins at sea is only possible with the guide's approval.

How does the dolphin day at sea work?

  1. Hotel pick-up in the morning (around 8 am) and transfer to the port.
  2. Sailing to the reef where the dolphins live.
  3. Observation, then into the water with mask and snorkel when conditions allow, guided by the crew.
  4. Two snorkeling stops on two different reefs.
  5. Buffet lunch on board, unlimited drinks.
  6. Return to port in the late afternoon (around 4.30 pm).

Best time to see dolphins

Dolphins are around the reefs all year round. In the morning the sea is often calmer, which makes watching and swimming easier. In winter, a shorty wetsuit is welcome.

Red Sea dolphins

You mainly meet bottlenose and spinner dolphins, which live in groups. They come to rest in the sheltered waters of the reefs: that is why it is essential to stay calm, not chase them and follow the crew's instructions.

With the family

With young children, the Dolphin show and the Shooting with dolphins are the most suitable. On the day at sea, ages 7-10 get a small discount and swimming with dolphins is only with the guide's approval.

Our view

For confident swimmers, the day at sea is unforgettable, especially as it includes two great snorkeling stops. Add an island day to discover two sides of the Red Sea.
