Just outside Hurghada, the landscape changes completely: ochre mountains, sand tracks and Bedouin villages. The safari is travellers' favourite land activity. But between quad, buggy, jeep, camel and horse, what should you choose?
The quad mini safari
The Mini Safari (from 23€) is the perfect entry level: a quad ride, a visit to a Bedouin village and a look at local life. The Mini safari complet (from 26€) adds a buffet dinner and an Egyptian folk show: about 5 hours in total, transfers included, in the afternoon.
Note: driving the quad is for over-16s on this option.
The super safari: quad, buggy and jeep
The Super Safari (from 25€) combines about 30 minutes of quad, 20 minutes of double buggy and around twenty kilometres by jeep with a guide, then a village visit and a show with buffet. Back around 7 pm. Reduced prices for ages 6-15.
The buggy: thrills for two
More stable than a quad, the Buggy is driven by two, side by side. Ideal as a couple or with friends for 1.5 hours of adrenaline in the dunes.
The combined safari and a night in the desert
The Combined safari has it all: an hour of quad, 30 minutes on a camel, a horse ride, then an oriental dinner, a show and stargazing at sunset.
Gentler: horses and camels
To enjoy the scenery without an engine: Camel Riding 2h, Horse riding 2 hours (with an option to ride into the sea), a galloping Horse Safari, or a Carriage riding at sunset.

What to wear on safari
- Closed shoes and covering clothes.
- Sunglasses and a scarf or turban against the dust (sold on site if needed).
- A light jacket in winter: the desert cools quickly after sunset.
- Some cash for drinks and souvenirs.
How does a typical safari work?
- Pick-up at your hotel in the early afternoon.
- Arrival at the camp, safety briefing and equipment.
- Quad (or buggy, jeep) on desert tracks, in line behind the guide.
- Visit to a Bedouin village: tea, bread baked on a wood fire, traditions.
- Sunset over the mountains.
- Buffet dinner and show (belly dance, whirling dervish) depending on the option.
- Return to the hotel in the evening.
Single or double quad?
On most safaris you can drive alone or share a quad. Children ride as passengers behind an adult when the option allows.
Is the safari dangerous?
The safari is done in a group, in line behind a guide who adapts the speed. Listen to the briefing, keep your distance from the quad in front and stay on the track. The buggy, more stable, reassures those who have never driven a quad.
Morning or afternoon?
The afternoon is the most popular: the heat drops and the sunset over the desert is spectacular. It also allows dinner and the show to follow.
Our view
For a first safari, the Super Safari offers the most variety. Animal lovers will prefer the Horse Safari or the Horse riding 2 hours with a ride into the sea, a rare moment.
